We have several of these large Boas at Reserva Don Luis as their preferred habitat is flooded areas, swamps, marshes and river banks.  The Yellow Anaconda belongs to the family Boidae and its scientific name is Eunectes notaeus.  They are found in the southern regions of South America and are non-venemous.  They kill their prey by constriction and are excellent swimmers.

It is the second largest Boa in the Americas and can grow up to a maximum of 5m although the majority do not attain this length.  The females are larger than the males.  It is  predominantly yellow with strong black markings.

We usually come across this beautiful snake basking in the sunshine during winter.
