Bothyrops alternatus
The Urutu Pitviper is relatively common in the Ibera Marshes. Â It is highly venemous and can cause death if not treated quickly. Â It can certainly cause severe tissue damage.
It is found in marshy areas, sometimes in water, and is a capable swimmer.
It can grow to 2m in length but is usually smaller, at around 1m. Â The colour is a muddy grey-green with kidney shaped markings bordered with cream and a notable cross on the head. Â The patttern is variable and probably each snake has its own unique pattern.
