This beautiful small seedeater is one of our more common birds at Reserva Don Luis. We see them along our water bodies where they build their nests and usually have a brood of between 2-5.

The male is beautifully marked with a black hood and collar. Throat is white and the rest of the body is cinnamon.Buffy edging on wing coverts.

The female is plainer but still attractive and lacks the black hood and collar. She has a white throat and rufous breast. Wings are similar to the male.
