The Rufous Hornero is the national bird of Argentina. It is common throughout the country with the exception of the far south. It is famous for its mud nests which appear in the most unusual places, usually not far from the ground.

It is a similar size to the Chalk-browed Mockingbird (18cm), and has a brown/rufous upper part with pale underparts and a white throat. The tail is rufous and the feet appear large. It has a distinctive call which is typical of the family Furnariidae
