This beautiful Kite is usually seen perching on a dead tree, looking for insects to hunt. We do not see this bird often at Reserva Don Luis, but in early 2018 we had a spate of sightings and they seemed to favour our woodland in the south of the reserve.

This is a small kite measuring around 35cm, around the size of the Roadside Hawk. It is predominantly dark grey with a pale grey head and underparts. The eyes are red and the underside of the tail has 2 pale bars.
