Aramus guarauna
The Limpkin is common in the Ibera marshes and is in a family of its own – Aramidae.
It has a very loud call which can be heard from almost a kilometer away. Â It is a large bird of 55cm resembling an Ibis. Â It feeds on molluscs and can be seen regularly perching in trees, usually calling loudly.
It is predominantly dark brown with white streaking along the neck and upper back. Â It has a long thick bill with a yellow cere and long grey legs.
It has an unusual manner of flying in that it flaps the wings upward.
