Guira guira
The Guira Cuckoo is a gregarious bird in the Cuculidae family. Â It is common throughout most of Argentina.
It forms noisy groups and is almost never seen alone. Â It measures around 35cm
It has whitish underparts with brown streaking on the throat and breast. Â Upperparts are dark with streaks and it has a long tail which is tricoloured, with white at the tip.
The head is covered by a shaggy crown and the bill is orange. Â LIke most South American cuckoos this species is non parasitic.
They often nest communally and sometimes the juveniles can be seen lined up together on a tree limb – sometimes up to 20.
