The Green Kingfisher is a miniature version of the larger Amazon Kingfisher.

We occasionally see this species fishing in our ponds and lagunas which are usually full of fish.

As are most Kingfishers, this is a beautiful bird and it tends to be more confiding than the other two Kingfishers in the Ibera Marshes.

It has the usual Kingfisher long black bill with upper parts and head shiny dark green.  It has a red breast with white underparts.  Legs are short and tail has white spots.  It also has a white ring around its neck. Back and wings have white spots.
