Colaptes melanochloros
The Green-barred Woodpecker is common in the north and central part of Argentina. In the Ibera marshes it is frequently seen, usually in trees, but is not as common as the Field Flicker.
It has stunning markings, is around 23cm in length, with a black crown and a red nape. Underparts are yellow with black spots and upperparts are black with paler greenish streaking. It has a red malar and a short black tail.
In Argentina it is known as Carpintero Real.
