Buteogallus urubitinga
The Great Black Hawk is uncommon in the Ibera Marshes but is seen occasionally in the grassland areas. Â It breeds in the south of our reserve and we usually see a juvenile in early spring.
The adult is predominantly matte black with a white rump and tail that has a broad black band. Â The legs are yellow and very strong looking. Â The bird measures 58cm – the female being larger, and the bill has yellow ceres and is very curved.
