Buteogallus urubitinga
The Great Black Hawk is uncommon in the Ibera Marshes but is seen occasionally in the grassland areas. It breeds in the south of our reserve and we usually see a juvenile in early spring.
The adult is predominantly matte black with a white rump and tail that has a broad black band. The legs are yellow and very strong looking. The bird measures 58cm – the female being larger, and the bill has yellow ceres and is very curved.
