Aramides ypecaha
The Giant Wood Rail is ubiquitous in the Ibera Marshes and thrives in the marshy wetlands being a consumer of reptiles, amphibians, insects and probably small fish.
It is of a confiding nature and is often seen out in the open where it is reluctant to fly. It has a very loud call which sounds as if it is in distress.
It is very attractively marked with a grey neck, rosy belly, bright red legs and eyes and chestnut upperparts. It measureas about 45cm.
Part of the family Rallidae, it breeds successfully in the Ibera Marshes
