Psarocolius decumanus
This stunning bird is not often observed in the Ibera marshes but is found nearby. This photo was taken at Estancia Virocay in Virasorro.
It is a large bird of some 40cm and a member of the family Icteridae. It has a loud pleasant call which gives it the Argentine name of Yapu (pronounced Japoo).
The most noticeable feature of this bird is the long yellow tail whilst the rest of the body is predominantly black. It has a large ivory coloured bill and a blue iris which is conspicious. The rump and vent are rufous and it has a black plume on its head.
