Schoeniophylax phryganophilus
The Chotoy Spinetail is common at our reserve and is found throughout the Ibera Marshes. It is part of the family Furnariidae and has the typical long spiny tail.
It has a very unusual call which is a bit like the whirring of a machine and it builds large nests of twigs as do most of the Furnaiidae family.
It is an attractive, well marked bird with a rufous cap, long white supercilium and a yellow chin with a white throat and black square patch in the centre. The chest is buffy with a cinnamon breast band.
Upperparts are black, brown and rufous. Females are the same but juveniles are less colourful and lack the yellow chin.
