Gnorimopsar chopi
This very vocal bird is located in the far north-east of Argentina. It has a very loud and melodious song which is one of the reasons for its decline. Sometimes this species is trapped for the cage trade. It is part of the Icteridae family along with other Blackbirds, Caciques and Cowbirds.
It is usually found in flocks of several birds and also flocks with the Shiny Cowbird. It is more common in the countries to the north of Argentina such as Brazil.
It is a large Blackbird of some 22cim and predominantly shiny black. The primaries are of a paler brown and the mandible is grooved.
We occasionaly see this species in the Ibera marshes.
