This smallish hawk is very common throughout Argentina but in the Ibera Marshes it is vastly outnumbered by the larger Southern-crested Caracara.

It is predominantly brown with light brown underparts.  The tail has a dark band on the tip and the primaries are almost white.

It is called Chimango in Argentina
