The Southern-crested Caracara is the most common raptor in the Ibera Marshes and we frequently see it. It is large, at around 55cm.

It has dark upperparts, dark barred underparts, a black cap and orange face and lores. Throat is white and legs are yellow.

It has a noticeable crown and is a voracious hunter which will also take carrion.
