This compact raptor is our commonest hawk at Reserva Don Luis. We often see it perched on trees in all of our woodlands.

It has a distinctive loud call which it utters when disturbed.

It has a dark brown hood with a smallish bill and yellow cere. The eyes are a pale yellow. The breast is cream barred with brown and the wings are mottled dark brown. The tail is dark brown with black bars.
