The Red-winged Tinamou is a reasonably common bird at Reserva Don Luis, but although it can often be heard, especially in the spring/summer, it is not often seen. It has a mournful distinct call.  This species spends most of its time in longish grass.

This is quite a large bird of some 38cm that has a long curved bill and large feet.  Its back and wings are barred, its neck and breast are cinnamon and when it flies (which is not often), the leading edges of the wing are red.  It also has a narrow dark cap on its head.
