Paroaria coronata
These Cardinals are very common at the reserve and in Northern and Central Argentina in general.
They are about the size of a Waxwing and have very clear markings. The red hood/crest extends down the chest onto white underparts. Â The back and wings are grey and the bill pale.
Male and female are similar but the juveniles maintain a more brownish crest for at least 6 months. Â Usually seen together in pairs the male regularly attacks windows and mirrors in response to his reflection. Â They breed in nests made in trees and usually have 2 offspring which stay with the adults for up to 9 months.
