Euphonia chlorotica
When we first bought Reserva Don Luis we discovered these small pretty passerines in one of our native trees eating the orange berries of an epiphite in winter. Since then we only occasionally see it, most likely due to its dietary preferences.
It is a tiny bird of around 9cm with bright yellow underparts and forehead. The cap, throat and upperparts are almost black, with a purple sheen. The female is duller with an olivacious back and pale yellow underparts.
We hope to see more of these delightful birds in the future.
