The Little Woodpecker is our commonest Woodpecker at Reserva Don Luis, where it breeds regularly. It is found in quite a small area of North Argentina.

It is a small woodpecker of around 14cm with olive upperparts, olive head dotted white and a red nape.  Underparts are dark with white barring.

The female has a browner head without the red nape.
