The large Elaenia is relatively common inhabitant of the Ibera marshes.  It is similar to several other flycatchers and difficult to diferenciate other than by its call.  It has a soft explosive whistle.

It measures around 16cm, has a brown head with a short crest and a white throat.  Upper breast is grey and lower belly is yellow.  The tail is long and the bill dark.  It also has pale edgings to the coverts.
