We have seen this seedeater at the reserve since we arrived in 2010, sometimes in large flocks in winter, although it now appears to be a resident. It was declared a new species iin 2016, and given the name Sporophila iberensis or Ibera Seedeater. It is reasonable common around the reserve especially near the houses and in the south.
It appears to be a hybrid between the Dark-throated Seedeater and the Tawny-bellied Seedeater.
It has a grey crown, brown throat and nape, a pale chest and belly and a typical seedeater’s bill. The female is typical of other Sporophila females.
