The Greater Thornbird is well adapted to our wetland conditions at Reserva Don Luis and we have many breeding examples.
The nest is a large tubular affair that is built at the end of a branch usually on a large tree. It consists of a mass of twigs and usually has 2 entrances.
The Greater Thornbird is striking with dorsal side chestnut and ventral pale. Crown, tail and primaries are rufous and it has a bright yellow iris. The bill is long and slightly hooked.
The call is very loud and distinctive.
