Diminutive Serotine
The Diminutive Serotine is found in several of the eastern provinces of Argentina up to and including Buenos Aires province. It is also found in Salta and Jujuy in the far NW.
It is less common than its close relative, the Argentine brown bat, which is similar but larger, and is insectivorous.
Eptesicus dinimutus is a small bat weighing around 6g with a forearm length of less than 37mm. The specimen in the photo from Jujuy had a very pale venter, almost white, but others caught in Buenos Aires have been more grey. It has dark brown membranes and wings, a long and slightly curved tragus and a uropatagium without fur next to the body as with the other Eptesicus species.
