Pachyramphus validus
The Crested Becard is a migrant that nests in Argentina and migrates north in the winter. Â It is a member of the Cotingidae family. Â Unusually for birds, it is the female that is the more attractive.
This bird nests at our reserve although it is not common. Â It is usually seen mid to high level in the trees.
The male has a black or dark grey upperparts with a black crown which he raises at times. Â The underparts are pale grey.
The female has bright rufous upperparts and a pale cinnamon breast. Â She also has a dark grey cap which reaches below the eyes.
