This beautiful medium sized owl is iconic of the Ibera marshes and in fact is found in most rural areas throughout Argentina.

It is unusual in that it is seen by day either guarding its burrow in the ground or perched on a post nearby.

It measures 25cm and has pale underparts which are barred brown.upperparts are brown with white splashes..  The legs are covered with white feathering and it has a white supercilium and throat.  The eyes are yellow and it is of a confiding nature.
