We first handled this large frugivorous bat in Misiones in December 2017. Since then we have discovered it near the river in Corrientes in October 2019. It has not yet been discovered in the Ibera Marshes.

It is similar to Artibeus lituratus, which is common in Misiones (less so in Corrientes), but is smaller with less contrasting facial stripes.

It is a dark grey overall and like the other members of this genus has a well developed uropatagium and no tail. The nose leaf is fused to the upper lip.

It is only found in Misiones, Corrientes, Chaco and Formosa.
