Falco femoralis
The Aplomado Falcon is the larger of the two falcons that we regularly see in the Ibera Marshes, the other being the American Kestrel.
They are normally seen in pairs perched on a wire fence or a tree branch. There is quite a lot of orange/cinammon colouring in this bird as is apparant in the legs, cere and belly. The head is capped dark grey with a long moustache either side. White supercilium with a white throat and upper breast. There is a breastband which varies between dark brown and a cinammon colour which is streaked black.

Female is larger than male as is typical of raptors at about 38cm, the male being 5cm smaller
