The American Woodstork usually arrives in the Ibera Marshes in spring and leaves at the end of summer.  It is usually found in or near water in a flock of about 4-20.

The species is relatively common in Reserva Don Luis and we see them perched in trees or hunting in the shallow ponds.

It is smaller than the Maguari Stork at about 65cm with predominantly white feathers and black remiges and tail.  Its head is dark although can be pinkish in some lights, and the bill is usually pale.
