The Amazon Kingfisher is one of 3 Kingfishers that we see in the Ibera Marshes. They all look quite similar and are in the family Alcedinidae.

The Amazon Kingfisher is the medium sized of the three at about 25cm in length.  It has a long black bill, back and wings bluish-green with a rufous breast.  It has a crest, white neck and white underparts.

The female is similar but lacks the rufous breast.  Instead she has a broken green breastband.
