The Plains Vizcacha is a rodent that looks a little like a large rabbit with a striped head.  It is a member of the Chinchillidae family and lives in the dryer areas of Íbera constructing  burrows and tunnels in a similar manner to that of the rabbit.  They can weigh up to 9kg and have a body length of appx. 50cm with a tail appx. 20cm.

They are nocturnal although they can be seen late afternoons and their vocal alarm calls can be easily heard.

We do not have these mammals at Reserva Don Luis probably due to the fact that we can be seasonally flooded.
