The Surucua Trogon is a stunning looking medium sized bird that lives in wooded areas.  One can find this bird with its distinctive, continuous call in the woods to the north of the Ibera marshes.  It is usually associated with water.

It measures appx 24cm in length, has a short white bill and an orange ring around its eye.  Uts underparts are red with a white graduated undertail.  Its head and breast are a greyish blue and the back is irridescent blue and green with a blue outer tail.

The female is similar but less brightly coloured.

We do not yet have this bird in Reserva Don Luis but there is no reason why it should not be here.
