The Squirrel Cuckoo can be seen at all times of year in the Ibera Marshes but is difficult to photograph as it does not stay still and squirrels away in the tree.

It is a large cuckoo at 45cm with a very long tail that has large white spots seen from underneath. The tips of each of the tail feathers are white but it gives the appearance of spots. Upperparts are chestnut, throat is pink and belly is white. The bill is curved and greenish.
