We have heard the Riparian Myotis many times around the reserve on our detectors but we first managed to capture it in August 2016.  We now regularly capture it in our Harp traps in the interior of our woodlands and sometimes it comes in the form of an orange morph.

It is similar to the Myotis Nigricans, differing by its saggital crest, fur and its higher frequency echolocation.   Ventral fur is bicolored with a dark base and pale tips and the orange individuals are very distinctive, also with a dark base.

Little is known about this bat but it is quite common throughout South America.
