Histiotus macrotus
This stunning bat is found in Argentina, Chile and Paraguay and is a member of the Vespertilionidae family. We found this example in a wooded area in the mountainous region of Yala in Jujuy. It is insectivorous and forages in woodland and grassland areas.
It roosts in buildings, caves and mines sometimes solitarily and sometimes with hundreds of other similar bats.
It is basically grey/brown with bicoloured fur on the ventre and has huge ears with a long pointed tragus.
