Peter’s Mastiff Bat
Eumops bonariensis (Peter’s Mastiff Bat) is a medium sized bat of up to 20g and is from the family Molossidae. It is insectivorous and usually roosts in tree holes and has a free tail that extends beyond the uropatagium, as do all members of Molossidae.
It is similar to Eumops patagonicus, which is very common at our reserve, but has a longer forearm, is usually redder, and has ears which extend slightly beyond the nose tip when projected forward.The inner keel of the ear is thicker than patagonicus and extends further back.
We captured this species in the south of our reserve in October 2017 and now regularly find it around the houses.
